The Léger Boucher Test

Along with the Express VMA Test to prepare for a running goal, here is another option: the Leger Boucher test.

The principle

It consists of covering the longest possible distance by increasing the speed every two minutes.
This test should be done on a track with markers placed every fifty meters and a soundtrack (tape recorder, mp3) with the pace to be followed: increase the speed by 1 km/h every 2 minutes.
The soundtrack can be replaced by a training program with sound alerts, previously recorded on a heart rate monitor with a virtual coach. (Forerunner range)

The Leger Boucher test protocol

The runner is guided by the soundtrack indicating the passage at fifty meters, marked on the track by markers. Every two minutes, the speed is increased by 1 km/h.

The results

When the runner is no longer synchronized with the soundtrack and the markers at 50m, the runner has reached their Maximum Aerobic Speed (MAS).
If the runner has a heart rate monitor, the maximum heart rate achieved during the effort is the HR MAX.
