Trainning for Paris Brest Paris

Cycling 1,200 km between Brest and Paris, trip, how many hours in the saddle for how many kilometers of training?

For any cyclist, Brest is not in the western suburbs of Paris, Brest is Brittany, just as for any self-respecting Marseillais, Lille is the North. Brest is therefore far away, 600 km away, and the return journey means that the entire route is more than 1,200 km.

1,200 km in a race represents 12,000 km of excellent preparation for an unspecified but very clear goal: "not to be disappointed"!

12,000 km of training is approximately 500 hours in the saddle between January and August, with a maximum of nearly 80 hours per month in June with the 600 km brevet. January and February were spent riding 200 km per week, apart from the Sunday ride of 80 to 100 km.

July will be difficult as the preparation continues during the first month without a brevet since March. The qualifying brevets are distributed as follows: March 200 km, April 300 km, May 400 km, June 600 km.

If this event is exceptional, it is certainly comparable to another exceptional event, but in running: the 100 km of Millau. Participation in PBP2011 may allow us to determine if the race conditions of Millau, especially pace, can be applied to Paris-Brest-Paris.

2011: Paris-Brest-Paris was able to be ridden at a regular pace, confirming the race conditions established during Millau in 2009.
2012: It's Le 1 000 du Sud and its 16,000 meters of elevation, where managing effort is key to finish within 75 hours.
2015: Paris-Brest-Paris didn't allow for much observation, except for an early withdrawal due to tendonitis. The experience was enlightening, as the tendonitis wasn't a coincidence; it was caused by the cold, a gear ratio that was too high, and an improperly adjusted saddle, combined with a previously fragile knee.
2018: 1,000 km ridden at a steady pace between Ottawa and Quebec (Canada), with only 6,000 km of training.
2019: After a second winter season of bike commuting, a third Paris-Brest-Paris departure was undertaken, with new sensations and a rediscovery of the course. Read about it, with photos, here: Paris-Brest-Paris 2019 at the heart of the legendary ride. 10,000 km of training was completed before departing from Rambouillet.
2020: A year canceled by a virus that doesn't seem to like cyclists either.
2021: The Tour de France Randonneur was able to take place.
